The Free Roof Insulation Rebate in Australia - Explained
What is it?
The free roof insulation rebate is a new initiative that has been started by the Australian Government to help over 2.9 million Australian homeowners reduce their energy use, cut their power bills and increase the value and comfort of their homes. This $4 billion Energy Efficient Homes Package can help Australian homeowners save between $200 and $700 a year on bills.
The roof insulation rebate allows each homeowner to save up to $1,600 on the cost of installation. Because the cost to install insulation in an average Australian home ranges between $1,200 and $1,400, this means the rebate will almost always cover the total cost of the roof insulation.
Who can apply for roof insulation rebate?
Any Australian citizen or permanent resident over the age of 18 can apply for the free roof insulation rebate; as long as the house is their primary place of residence and it doesn’t already have insulation. Anyone applying for the free roof insulation rebate must do so as an individual, not as a business or organisation. If the home doesn’t solely belong to the homeowner, the individual trying to get the free insulation rebate must get expressed permission from all parties who own the home.
The Government is also offering a solar hot water rebate. Homeowners, however, must choose between receiving the solar hot water rebate or the free roof insulation rebate. If homeowners have received the solar hot water rebate after the 3rd of February they will be ineligible to receive the free roof insulation rebate.
