Wall Insulation Installation

For comfortable living in any home, proper insulation is required. It is not only important to install insulation in the ceiling or roof, but wall insulation installation is also a necessity. Proper insulation saves money on heating and cooling, keeping the hot air from escaping in the winter and keeping the interior cool in the summer.

New Homes Wall Insulation

For new homes still in construction, the options are greater than homes already built. In fact, local laws may mandate a degree of insulation. With new homes, a whole-house systems design approach can be used that takes into consideration how the core building materials interact with the insulation.

Existing Homes Wall Insulation

For existing homes that have never been properly insulated or with bad insulation, there are a few different options. The most labor-intensive option is to tear down the  internal or external cladding, add a bulk insulation and then reclad the interior Gyprock or replace the weatherboards. This idea, however, is not very practical.

A common form of wall insulation is fibreglass or mineral blanket batts and rolls, but this is only optimal for new wall construction. Polystyrene foam board can also be used but again, it requires either tearing out an existing wall or new construction. Loose fill composed of fibreglass,  or  mineral wool  can be used for existing walls. It is blown into place  but is subject to settling over time which reduces it's effectiveness. Polyurethane spray foam is another alternative for new wall construction but once again is not practical in existing wall cavities.

One of the best options for wall insulation installation is  Ecofoam.  Ecofoam is pumped into the existing wall cavity via filling holes with minimal disruption to the home. The installation can also be done from the outside which means you wont even know they are there. Most homes will be insulated in a single day. The foam flows throughout wall  cavity and fills all the nooks and crannies , which also eliminates drafts and never settles or packs down.
